Chicago's Hampton Inn & Suites Opens The Door To Durability

CHICAGO--December 27, 1999

First Hospitality Group's commitment to value extends from the extent of its guest facilities and services to the way it builds its facilities. To ensure long service life under demanding "back-of-the-house" usage, durable steel doors and frames were specified for the Hampton Inn & Suites Chicago River North facility. In the guest rooms and public areas, wood doors are hung in comparable steel frames that provide the stability and strength to keep doors operating without a hitch.

Comfort With a Convenient Location

Conveniently located on the corner of Illinois and Dearborn Streets in downtown Chicago, the 12-story Hampton Inn & Suites Chicago River North offers 230 guest rooms as well as meeting rooms, a restaurant and recreational facilities.

Because of its convenient location, within walking distance of Michigan Avenue shopping and entertainment, and the Loop business and financial district, the facility is drawing a steady stream of guests. This traffic requires an equally heavy volume of services, and the building was equipped to stand up to the demand.

Doors and Frames Meet the Challenge

In the service areas, the new facility is equipped with doors and frames designed to stand up to the high level of activity and constant passage of food service, hospitality and laundry carts. Other areas with similar door requirements include emergency exits and fire stairwells.

For these areas, Steelcraft L16 and L18 doors were used. These beveled edge, honeycomb core doors are designed to meet architectural requirements for full flush doors. They combine the strength and dimensional stability of steel with the structural integrity of the honeycomb core. Continuous bonding of core to metal provides an attractive, flat door that is free of face welding marks. To ensure proper alignment and continued trouble-free operation, the doors are hung in Steelcraft F16 frames.

The same frames are used in the guest facilities, both for the entry doors and the connecting doors that provide access between adjoining rooms. For the wood or laminate doors used in these areas, they provide stability and ensure dependable operation with low maintenance.

The Hampton Inn & Suites Chicago River North is owned by First Hospitality Group. The general contractor was Babco, of Evanston, Illinois, and Steelcraft doors and frames were furnished through Star Contractors Supply, Alsip, Illinois.
